Nashoba's offense heats up in victory SHREWSBURY With senior Robby Atwood back under center this week it didn't take long for the Nashoba Regional football team to open up its playbook on Friday night. After not completing a pass in a 12 7 victory over Marlboro High last week, the Chieftains caught everyone by surprise when Atwood connected with Tony Kennon on a 35 yard pass on the team's first play from scrimmage against Shrewsbury High. The early completion was a sign of things to come as Atwood went 7 for 9 with 118 yards passing, including one touchdown pass, and also ran for a pair of scores in an impressive 20 7 Mid Wach A victory over the host Colonials. "That was part of the plan," said Nashoba head coach Jamie Tucker. "We wanted to bring that passing attack at the beginning to show them what we had a little bit. We knew that they were going to be aggressive, so that was a nice completion to get us down there and rolling a little bit" With the win, Nashoba ran its record to a perfect 2 0, while Shrewsbury fell to 0 2. The Chieftains will visit Wachusett next Friday night in a huge league tilt between a pair of unbeaten squads. "Wachusett is physical and big," Tucker said. "They are very precise offensively, so we are going to have to bring it. Jonny Gjeltema booted through the extra point. Nashoba embarked on an impressive drive late in the second quarter to take a 14 0 lead into the locker room. Atwood capped off this 11 play drive when he again took it in from a yard out to give the Chieftains a 14 0 advantage after another successful point after attempt from Gjeltema. The Chieftains put this one out of reach on the opening drive of the second half. Atwood was a perfect 3 for 3 for 35 yards, including a 17 yard scoring strike to Kennon, as Nashoba opened up a 20 0 lead with 7:05 left in the third quarter. The extra point attempt was unsuccessful. "Robby (Atwood) was great," Tucker said. "He was efficient for us and I was really happy with the powerful blocking up front. All around, it was a great offensive win."
