First Nation's smoke shop delayed Brown and members of the Dakota First Nation have plans to sell Mohawk cigarettes at a tobacco shop near Pipestone, about 100 kilometres southwest of Brandon. The Mohawk cigarettes would be sold in the Dakota smoke shop for about one-third the cost of provincially taxed cigarettes. The smoke shop was originally supposed to be combined with a temporary casino that Brown says would help fund the construction of a permanent casino at Oak Island Resort in Oak Lake. Those plans are now on hold, Brown says. "But the site of the tobacco shop, I don't think the (gaming) machines are going to go there. They might go elsewhere. This is in discussion right now. I can't really say. "We thought both of them were going to go together in one building, but it doesn't look like it." The group is nearing completion of their First Nation-created gaming licence and tobacco sales regulations, one of the reasons the smoke shop and mini-casino -- both of which were supposed to open in November -- have been delayed.
